League of Legends (LoL) is a hit multiplayer online battle arena game that's played by millions worldwide. For many players, keeping an eye on the game’s framerate (FPS) is crucial to unleash their full potential. A single moment can make or break a teamfight, right?

Want to make sure your framerate stays steady even in the craziest team fights? No worries! In this article, we’ll show you several ways to display your FPS in League of Legends.

League of Legends: What is Framerate and FPS?

FPS, or frames per second, is all about how buttery smooth your game looks. It's the number of images your screen shows every second. Higher FPS equals smoother gameplay, letting you catch every detail and react fast. It’s like the difference between a flipbook and a movie!

What is Ping in Video Games?

Ping is basically your game’s reaction time. It’s measured in milliseconds and shows how fast your computer or console talks to the game server. Lower ping means quicker responses in-game, so everything you do happens faster. High ping? Expect delays and lag, like texting someone who replies hours later.

How to Display FPS on Screen through Built-In Software in League of Legends

League of Legends has a built-in feature to display your framerate while you're playing. Follow these steps to turn on the FPS display:

  1. Launch League of Legends and log in.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to open the settings.
  3. Navigate to the "Hotkeys" section under "In-Game".
  4. Scroll down until you find the "Display" tab.
  5. Here, you'll see the option "Toggle FPS Display," usually assigned to the Ctrl + F shortcut.

So next time you jump into a game, just hit Ctrl + F, and your FPS along with your ping should pop up in the top right corner of your screen.

Show FPS and Ping Through Third-Party Software

If you want more detailed info on your framerate, or if League of Legends’ built-in FPS display isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you can also use third-party software. There are various programs specifically designed for displaying FPS in games. Here are some popular options:

  • Fraps: A well-known tool that offers extensive features for displaying FPS and recording gameplay.
  • MSI Afterburner: A versatile system performance monitoring tool that includes an FPS counter.
  • NVIDIA GeForce Experience: If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can use the GeForce Experience program to display the framerate in games.

Make sure to check whether the third-party software is allowed by League of Legends and Riot Games though. With the inclusion of Vanguard, the kernel-level anti-cheat, some third-party software has been banned in the game and could result in your entire account getting suspended or even removed by Riot.

Displaying the framerate in League of Legends is crucial, especially in a game where lightning-fast reactions are key. Any lag can be a major disadvantage. By using either the built-in FPS display in League of Legends or opting for third-party software, you can easily keep an eye on your framerate.
